WHAT IT IS:
Are you only in Bend for the weekend? Want to take in some views without giving up an entire day? A fun short hike close to Bend that you may like is to head up Tumalo Mountain. It is a moderate hike of around 4 miles round trip. It only takes about 45 mins to climb at a steady but relaxed pace.
WHERE IT IS:
The trail head is up on Century Drive, 21 miles outside of Bend on the right hand side of the road just shy of Mt. Bachelor resort. You get some great views of Mt. Bachelor as you begin your ascent.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Your lungs will enjoy 1425 ft. of elevation gain and you will be rewarded with some spectacular views at the top! It can get chilly once you get up there – be sure to bring a jacket and some water for along the way. You’ll see frost in the picture below. This photo was taken at around 10:30 am on a sunny day at the end of September. The views you see are to the South East – the views to the West are even better. I tried to get a great shot of the mountains so you would have an idea of what to expect at the top but unfortunately the clouds refused to cooperate… I guess you’ll just need to get up there yourself to reap that reward :).
This is a great morning hike that leaves you with plenty of time to get back into town to tackle another adventure. I hope you get a chance to check out this fun trail! Happy hiking!
